There’s a certain irony in cleaning the house only to be left with a smell that makes you want to open every window. That’s long been one of my problems with conventional cleaning products. Strong synthetic fragrances, particularly heavily perfumed or flowery varieties, tend to aggravate my allergies, making some household chores more unpleasant than they need to be.
It’s one of the reasons Euclove appeals to me. The Australian brand produces a range of locally made products using plant-based ingredients and essential oils rather than the harsher formulations commonly associated with household cleaning. More importantly, the products work well without triggering my allergies.
There are other considerations too. My wife and I are conscious of what we use around our daughter and French bulldog, particularly on floors, furniture and frequently touched surfaces.
Euclove itself has an interesting family story. Founders Srini Ranganathan and his wife Chelsy turned to traditional remedies after their son experienced respiratory sensitivities. Drawing on remedies passed down through Chelsy’s family and botanical traditions from Srini’s Indian heritage, they developed their own cleaning formulations.
Established in 2017, the Dandenong South-based company offers a comprehensive range extending beyond general household cleaners to laundry detergents, dishwashing liquid, hand washes, linen and room sprays, and even a dedicated pet-care range featuring dog shampoo and conditioner.
Beyond its products, Euclove supports The Nurtured Village, an Australian initiative helping mothers and families experiencing isolation or limited support. The company contributes through financial donations and care hampers containing practical household and personal essentials.
Central to Euclove’s approach is the use of botanical ingredients for more than simply their fragrance. Its Australian eucalyptus oil contains 85 per cent cineole, a compound known for its antibacterial properties, while neem and clove oils have a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic practices. Together with tea tree oil and coconut oil-based soap, these ingredients form the basis of the company’s plant-based cleaning formulations.
But how do the products perform around the house?
The Multi-Purpose Cleaner is one of the most versatile products we use. It’s particularly effective on quality wooden furniture and MDF, removing everyday marks without leaving unwanted residue. It’s also handy for stubborn spots on the floor, where it complements the dedicated Floor Cleaner.
In the kitchen, the results are equally encouraging. The Kitchen Cleaner brings silver tapware up beautifully, removes water stains from our black sink and leaves stone surfaces free from smears. Its pleasant fragrance is among the stronger in the range, but that’s not necessarily a drawback. After cooking, it helps clear lingering food odours while leaving the kitchen smelling fresh.
Stainless steel can be notoriously unforgiving, especially around the cooktop. Euclove’s Stainless Steel Cleaner handles stubborn grease particularly well and produces an excellent streak-free finish on brushed surfaces.
The Glass & Mirror Cleaner is another standout. On a glass table and bathroom mirrors, the finish is consistently clear and streak-free. It’s also useful for regular maintenance of shower glass. With the weather warming up, the glass pool fencing is next on our list.
The Bathroom Cleaner is equally impressive, removing stubborn toothpaste residue and watermarks from taps while leaving porcelain sinks streak-free. It also works particularly well on stone and laminate benchtops. Another advantage is its clove oil-based formulation, which has natural antifungal properties to help tackle existing surface mould and prevent its return with regular use.
The Floor Cleaner rounds out the general household range nicely. It dries quickly without leaving streaks on tiles or laminate floorboards, and works well with both a conventional mop and our robot vacuum/mop system. There’s no sticky residue to contend with, making it particularly convenient for regular use.
The adjustable nozzles fitted to Euclove’s trigger bottles work exceptionally well, delivering a strong, consistent spray in both settings.
One produces a concentrated stream for targeting stubborn marks or awkward spots, while the other spreads the cleaner across a much wider area.
I generally favour the wider setting for benches, tables and other larger surfaces, although the strength and accuracy of the direct stream make it surprisingly useful when needed.
Euclove takes a two-pronged approach to toilet cleaning, with a foaming spray for regular maintenance and a thicker gel for more demanding jobs.
The Foaming Toilet Cleaner helps keep the bowl fresh between more thorough cleans. It’s easy to apply and handles everyday use and odours well.
For more stubborn residue, the Toilet Gel Cleaner is outstanding. Its thicker consistency helps it cling to the porcelain, allowing time for the cleaner to work before brushing and flushing. It tackles build-up effectively, leaving the bowl clean without the overpowering bleach smell often associated with toilet cleaners.
Both formulations use botanical ingredients, including eucalyptus, grapefruit, lavender, bergamot and tulsi essential oils. It’s certainly a more pleasant way to approach one of the less glamorous household chores.
Across the range, the fragrances smell genuinely fresh and botanical without the artificial sweetness or heavy perfume I find so troublesome. Being able to clean several rooms without allergy issues makes a real difference, and it’s something I particularly appreciate about using Euclove.
Consideration for families and pets extends to product development, with Euclove consulting veterinary professionals and avoiding ingredients such as synthetic fragrances, ammonia, bleach, sulphates and parabens.
Even the packaging deserves some credit.
Cleaning products generally end up hidden beneath the sink, but Euclove’s bottles have a simple, understated appearance that looks perfectly at home in the kitchen, laundry or bathroom.
They don’t look or feel cheap and flimsy, so leaving one beside the sink or on a bathroom vanity is hardly an eyesore. It’s a welcome change from the brightly coloured plastic bottles that dominate supermarket cleaning aisles.
There’s substance behind the presentation too. Euclove’s bottles are manufactured in Australia using 70 per cent post-consumer recycled plastic, including material recovered from used milk bottles. The company also incorporates recycled materials into other packaging and reuses cardboard boxes where practical.
Combined with its refill options, these measures help reduce unnecessary packaging waste.
For Australian-made products using quality plant-based ingredients, Euclove is reasonably priced, with all seven 500ml cleaners reviewed carrying a recommended retail price of less than $15 each. Considering their performance and versatility, that strikes me as fair value. Selected products are also available in 300ml bottles and compact 50ml travel sizes, particularly handy for caravans and motorhomes.
There are also several ways to make ongoing use more economical. Purchasing directly from Euclove provides access to discounted bundles, larger refill sizes and a subscription service offering 20 per cent savings. Customers can also build their own bundles for additional discounts, while orders over $89 qualify for free shipping.
Availability is another advantage, with Euclove sold through retailers including Go Vita, WholeLife Pharmacy & Healthfoods and Biome, along with independent outlets around Australia. Physical-store stock varies between locations, while online purchasing options include Euclove’s website and Woolworths’ Everyday Market. A handy store locator makes it easy to find nearby stockists.
Across the household, Euclove proves itself a capable cleaning range. From removing kitchen grease and watermarks to cleaning floors, glass and bathroom surfaces, the products consistently deliver. The occasional need for additional effort or a final buff is hardly unusual when tackling more demanding cleaning jobs.
The dual-setting spray nozzles are a particularly clever touch, while the attractive packaging, Australian manufacturing credentials and reasonable pricing add further appeal.
For me, though, the biggest advantage remains personal. The house gets cleaned effectively without aggravating my allergies, while the thought given to families and pets provides additional reassurance.
They’re products we’re happy to keep using, with pleasant natural scents and packaging attractive enough to leave out rather than hide away.
