Brewed awakenings

Single O enrich fulfilment of the great outdoors

Thomas Cook

As Australians have evolved as coffee drinkers, so too has the humble ‘bush cuppa’ thanks to skilful brewers like Single O. Their cool artwork caught our attention, and their vibe is bang on for enjoying life and the great Australian outdoors, so we just had to give their products a try!

Iced latte can

There’s something magical about savouring a cup of coffee in the great outdoors. The aroma mingles with fresh air, creating a sensory delight that invigorates the spirit. Each sip warms your hands and ignites your senses, while the sounds of nature – a gentle breeze, birds chirping, leaves rustling, water flowing – form a soothing backdrop.

Whether you have just woken up at the campsite or are perched on a mountaintop, enjoying coffee outside transforms the simple act into a mindful experience. It invites you to pause, breathe deeply and connect with the world around you. As the steam rises, so do your thoughts, swirling into the tranquillity of the moment. You are present, fully immersed in the beauty of nature. It’s a small ritual that brings joy, peace and a deeper appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Beyond the delightful experience of sipping coffee in the great outdoors; there’s also host of benefits thanks to the caffeine. As you take in the fresh air and natural beauty, the caffeine can boost your mood and enhance your focus. This stimulant helps get your day started and increases alertness.

As you enjoy the rich flavour, you’re also supporting your body’s metabolism and promoting physical endurance. This makes those outdoor adventures feel even more rewarding. Whether you’re hiking, reading or simply soaking in the scenery, coffee outdoors elevates your experience, turning a simple break into a revitalising escape.

PARACHUTES – COMPOSTABLE DRIP COFFEE BAGS – MULTICHUTES
Single O’s Parachute coffee bags are the perfect outdoor coffee solution. Offering single serves of speciality-grade coffee in compostable drip coffee bags, Parachutes make having your morning cuppa in the bush easier – and more delicious – than ever before. Simply tear open the bag, hang the Parachute on your cup, pour over some hot water and finish with a splash of milk (optional) and you’re set! Multichutes offer Single O’s most tasty selects – Chute Blend, Uganda Rwenzori and Kenya Karatina – for the drip bag format. Chute Blend suits a dash of milk, while the single origin features are best black, meaning all you need for your quality bush cuppa is a cup and hot water. The single origin blends are still delightful with milk too, so all good either way.

We seriously can’t decide which one we like the best, finding the Multichutes the perfect choice for our week-long camping trip. The whole brewing process is super-easy, and we took Single O’s recommendation of using water that’s just off the boil. And quite seriously – WOW! – the flavour has landed with Single O Parachutes – they take the bush cuppa to a whole new level, and we won’t be leaving home without them!

Available in packs of 10, 20, 48 or 96, Multichutes start from $25. Got a firm favourite? You can buy individual blends in packs of 5, 10 or 20, starting at $13 or even single Parachutes for $3.

ICED LATTE PILOT CAN
With the wide-reaching success of their cafes’ iced lattes, Single O have produced Iced Latte Pilot Cans for on-the-go coffee drinkers and needers of afternoon pick me ups. You get one shot of coffee per can and the latte is made from only a handful of other simple ingredients, offering subtle flavours of ripe berry and chocolate with a hint of malty sweetness.

With no fizz to worry about, Pilot Cans are easy to drink anytime, anywhere. They are far more robust and convenient space-wise than other iced coffees too, meaning we had no worries with them in our Dometic Cooler Backpack for a lengthy trek through the bush. In fact, the lattes are even better when the can has been shaken.

Admittedly, we weren’t initially sure how they would taste, or travel for that matter, but they are exceptional – especially ice cold! Turns out you can can coffee.

$24 for a pack of 4 cans

$90 for a pack of 16 cans

*As the name suggests, the Pilot Cans are on a trial basis – get behind ‘em!

SOMAGE 9 SPICE HONEY CHAI
But what if you don’t drink coffee? We spiced things up a bit in the bush with their Somage 9 Spice Honey Chai. The ‘sticky’ chai comes ready to brew and boasts Ceylon black tea, nine delicious organic spices such as nutmeg, cinnamon and cardamom and is infused with ginger and wildflower honey. This fresh and sweet spin on a traditional chai is quick and easy to make without any quality compromise.

To brew, simply heat 400ml of milk, add 40g of chai for one minute, strain and serve. It’s sensational and we discovered it to be the perfect treat when sitting around the campfire and relaxing after a day of adventuring. We can’t wait to bust this one out for the fam on Christmas morning – this flavour has that kind of ‘feel’ to it. No doubt the other flavours all offer something special worth indulging in.

Grab a 350g bag for $19.75 or a 1kg bag for $49.
