Leatherman upgrade takes Wave multi-tool to next generation.
Leatherman has been a name synonymous with excellence since the Oregon-based tools manufacturer burst onto the scene in 1983.
Founder Tim Leatherman was the man who steered the company from its inception and his commitment to top-notch engineering and craftsmanship drove the fledgling project forward.
A variety of tools came off the production line in Portland with one of the most notable success stories being the Wave multi-tool. With outside accessible blades deployable with one hand and 17 essential tools, the Wave is Leatherman’s best-selling multi-tool, with more than 10 million purchased since 1998.
From bottle opener, loose screw tightener to Christmas tree cutter, the Wave has been the ultimate utility utensil.
“For me, the Wave hits on all cylinders of great design,” said Ben Rivera, President and CEO of Leatherman Tool Group Inc. “After 20 years of trying to make it better and outdo it, it’s still my favourite multi-tool. So much of what we make today is built off of what we’ve learnt from the Wave.”
March 2018 saw the Wave’s reputation soar to a new level with a far-reaching upgrade. The Leatherman Wave+ boasts a revamped set of pliers that includes removable and replaceable 154cm wirecutters. A further addition saw a refined sheath. Each sheath possesses nylon webbing, premium elastic and reinforced stitching. This ensures enhanced performance, durability and superior styling. The Wave+ is priced at $219.95 for the Stainless and $229.95 in black.
“It’s not an easy task to improve on the greatest multi-tool of all time, but we always look to our fans for inspiration,” said Tim Lyden, Senior Product Manager. “They’ve been asking for replaceable wirecutters for some time. Now the iconic Wave gets new life with fresh wirecutters.”
